Jake is a commercial litigator with over twenty-five years of experience. Jake has successfully represented clients across the country in trials, appeals, arbitrations and mediations.
Policyholder Insurance Recovery
Jake has extensive experience representing policyholders across the country ranging from Fortune 500 companies to municipalities and private mid-size companies in insurance coverage matters implicating all types of first and third-party policies, including CGL, D & O, E & O, fiduciary liability, employers’ liability, business interruption, property and casualty, and other coverages. The positive outcome of Jake’s work has resulted in insurers paying out hundreds of millions of dollars to cover defense and indemnity for many types of claims, including environmental, asbestos, talc, and other types of claims.
For example, Jake acted as trial and appellate counsel for a mining and chemical company in a landmark insurance coverage trial held over a two-year period against dozens of insurance companies. The case ultimately made its way to the Connecticut Supreme Court, where Jake argued on behalf of the policyholder. Law360® listed the Connecticut Supreme Court’s policyholder-friendly decision among four of “The Biggest Property & Casualty Rulings” issued that year.
Complex Commercial Litigation
Jake’s complex commercial litigation experience covers nearly every corner of the law, from representing a Fortune 50 company in a patent infringement, false advertising and breach of contract lawsuit alleging hundreds of millions of dollars in damages, to representing a leading telecommunications company in various types of litigation, including breach of contract and tort cases. Jake’s experience also includes matters ranging from representing a former large shareholder of a publicly traded company in an action alleging securities fraud and breach of fiduciary duty against the corporation and its directors and officers arising from a large stock buyback, to representing corporate clients in federal cases alleging consumer fraud and alleged violations of RICO.
Jake earned his J.D. from Southern Illinois School of Law and his B.A. from Loras College.
